Header
- Required
- M favicon where technically feasible
- University wordmark with Driven to Discover tagline
- M Libraries unaltered logo
- University global navigation
Summary
The header comprises two rows. The University navigation (University of Minnesota logo on the left with 3 links on the right) must be the first item, followed by the Libraries logo, with required minimum logo sizes.
Favicon
The favicon must have the M in either maroon or gold and passing contrast ratio requirements of 3:1 (7.5:1 or greater is preferred) for websites on the umn.edu domain.
University of Minnesota wordmark
Libraries are required to have the University of Minnesota wordmark, including the “Driven to Discover” tagline, in the upper left corner.
The wordmark must have the “registered” mark and may be an SVG file. The width — specifically of the “University of Minnesota” text in the logo — must be:
- 220px and 12px margin around it for desktop sizes, and
- 170px with 9px margin around it for smaller (mobile) sizes.
The University logo is recommended to have an official University color as the background, either maroon or gold.
UMN global navigation
The University of Minnesota links in the upper right corner:
- “One Stop” link
- “MyU” link (it may also be “MyU: For students, staff, and faculty”)
- Search box
The University Libraries have an exception that allows the search box to be a link to the search, to avoid conflict with other searches on the page
University Libraries logo
M Libraries logo immediately below the wordmark. The width (from the M to the end of Libraries) must be:
- 260px and 10px margin around it for desktop sizes, and
- 130px with 5px margin around it for smaller (mobile) sizes.
Example wireframe placement
Search-oriented site example wireframe
If the website's primary task is to search, such as the main site searching the library catalog, or the Health Sciences Library website searching PubMed, the “Search” link may be removed if the search box is placed within the Libraries navigation row.
