A Socially Distant Hello
Dear Mapping Prejudice community!
We appreciate each and every one of you. We have learned so much from you during presentations, work sessions, and screenings of the Emmy-award winning documentary, “Jim Crow of the North.” You have shown us why it is important to understand the history and legacies of racial covenants. Of course, we haven’t been able to see much of you lately. As everyone knows, the kind of face-to-face encounters that have fueled Mapping Prejudice have been on hold since March. That’s when Mapping Prejudice joined other organizations and cancelled its public events in response to the threat from COVID-19.
This pandemic has fundamentally changed the landscape for community-powered research like Mapping Prejudice. We want to remain connected with you, despite the crisis. We hope that you will help us to figure out ways to move forward with this process of grappling with the past, even though the future seems so uncertain.
Mapping Prejudice has launched an effort to identify racial covenants in Ramsey County.
- Mapping Prejudice’s Maggie Mills has created a new training video to show you what to do. Watch this introduction and then join Maggie and Penny Petersen for one of our new volunteer sessions.
- Penny and Maggie are working with the “Welcoming the Dear Neighbor” team from St. Catherine’s University to create a collaborative online space to continue the work that we started in Hennepin County.
- Register for one of these events and then spend an hour hanging out with the Mapping Prejudice team and other volunteers without leaving home.
- Let us know if your organization would like to co-host an event. We are looking for community partners.
